There’s a perfectly good reason

To why I have been absent from the blog world the last few weeks.

This has been our new adventure!!

*Beware for those who don’t like reading or hearing about potty training and pee pee stories – A.K.A My dad! This post is full of them!

I was totally unprepared for this let me tell you! I was planning on potty training this summer before Kaydin starts “school” in August. So when he decided(yes KAYDIN decided) to begin this adventure ahead of schedule, we didn’t have a little potty for him or pull-ups or underwear or anything!

Let me start at the beginning of this crazy journey….

For a while now, every night when the bath giver would stand Kaydin in the bath tub for his bath, he would pee. Right away, automatically, every time. So just in the last month or so, we started sitting him on the big potty to try and get him to go on there before getting into the bath tub. It hardly ever worked……..but then one night he finally went on the potty! We all got really excited and we gave him high-fives and clapped. So every night we’d repeat this and we’d say “no pee pee in the bath tub, pee pee in the potty!” 

After it seemed like he was getting used to going on the potty before his bath, I decided to try during the day. He did pretty good! Then we got the Elmo potty and he loved it! We also got some pull-ups (which are just diapers you can pull on and off) so he can mostly do it by himself. And let me say that he is all about doing things himself right now!

 

I love the above picture because his pants are around his ankles. Now he has to completely remove his shorts/pants and pull-up or he has a fit! He won’t even let you leave them around one ankle, oh no!  I think he had shoes on in this picture which is why his pants are still on. Too funny!

Where we are now……

We are still using diapers but also pull-ups. I’d say 20% diapers and 80% pull-ups. Which is great for the wallet! 

He is not able to recognize that he needs to go potty yet. If you ask Kaydin “do you need to go pee pee?” he’ll say “no pee pee” shaking his head. But if you make him sit on the potty, he usually goes. So that’s what we do!

We’ve had several successful public potty trips. Monkey Joes, Sam’s Club, and Walmart are just a few. I think his favorite part his washing his hands.

Besides washing his hands, the flushing part is his other favorite. And he knows that he can’t flush if he doesn’t go potty first. It kind of acts as his reward – works for me!

So that’s our story. We just take things one day at a time and we are all learning as we go. Sometimes you can’t plan ahead and prepare as much as you’d like to! But it will all work out in the end =)
